Wraps off Renault’s 2016 F1 contenderPOSTED BY Nigel Andretti ON 04 February 2016
RENAULT has taken the wraps off its 2016 Formula 1 contender and it’s dressed mainly in black with yellow highlights.
Renault bought out the struggling Lotus outfit last December in the midst of an engine-supply feud with Red Bull.
Four times manufacturers champions Red Bull said the French engine-maker had been behind the eight-ball since the hybrid regulations came into force and had not been able to keep pace with Mercedes-Benz unit in speed or reliability.
Renault is back on the track and the Racing Director for the new team is Frederic Vasseur of ART Grand Prix fame.
Chief Technical Officer is Bob Bell, who left the Manor F1 Team in October 2015. The drivers behind the wheel of the Renault RS16 are Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer. Esteban Ocon fills the role of third and reserve driver for the Renault F1 Team.
“Motorsports still spark the imagination of both enthusiasts and everyday drivers, and we are putting a comprehensive program in place today.
“Formula 1 is a big part of our efforts to boost awareness of Renault, particularly in markets where Renault is a newcomer, and will enhance the transfer of technologies from the track to our road cars,” Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn said during the launch of the Renault RS16.
