Further bolstering Toyota’s reputation for reliability and the confidence held in their products, brand custodian in Malaysia, UMW Toyota Motor have extended the company’s warranty coverage on hybrid powertrain traction batteries to a total of eight years from the original date of registration; a further five years of coverage added to the original three-year warranty.

The original three-year, 100,000km warranty applies to the vehicle and hybrid battery, while the warranty extension of five years/unlimited mileage solely applies to the traction battery.

Named the Extended Warranty Program, this program covers all Toyota Hybrid vehicles sold by UMW Toyota Motor and its authorised dealers from 2009 (subject to terms and conditions).

Of course, the usual stipulations apply: the circular states that “The Extended Assurance Program Hybrid vehicle must be serviced at every 10,000km or 6 months (whichever comes first) and maintained by any UMW Toyota Motor Service Centre or its appointed authorised dealer in accordance to the vehicle’s standard warranty terms and conditions stipulated in the Careplus Booklet.”

Additionally, UMW Toyota Motor states that this extended warranty program is fully transferable to subsequent owners of covered vehicles, which excludes vehicles used for public transportation, rental or chauffeur limousine services.

An administration fee of RM106 (GST inclusive) applies along with other relevant costs in the process of each hybrid battery replacement, for the duration of the additional five-year traction battery warranty coverage.
