Toyota Prius c Debuts in US

POSTED BY admin ON 11 January 2012

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. today launched the Priusc c hatchback with a starting price of below $19,000. According to Toyota, the letter “c” represents “city” in the Prius c name. The car will go on sale in USA  in March 2012. From our earlier post, we already fuel consumption of the Prius c under Japanese test cycles, but we won’t take that very seriously as the Japanese JC-08 and 10-15 mode driving cycle test are far too unrealistic compared to real world driving conditions. The US EPA figures are more reliable and now that the Prius c has been launched in the US, we now know that fuel economy for Prius c is 53 mpg in the city, 46 mpg on the highway, for a combined rating of 50 mpg. In other words, the Prius c is actually more fuel efficient than the larger 1.8-liter Prius in city driving. The Prius has fuel economy of 51 mpg in the city, 48 mpg on the highway and a combined rating of 50 mpg.

Converted to metric terms, fuel economy for the Prius c (based on US specifications model and US test cycle) is rated at 22.5 km/liter in city, 19.6 km/liter on highway and a combined rating of 21.3 km/liter.

UMW Toyota have started order taking for the Prius c, with an estimated price of RM 103,990. To know more about the Prius c, go here.
