Toyota FT-Bh Concept

POSTED BY admin ON 23 February 2012

At next month’s Geneva Motor Show, Toyota will show off its latest hybrid concept car – the FT-Bh Concept. FT-Bh is short for Future Toyota B-segment hybrid. Two teaser pics of the FT-Bh are released today.

Currently, Toyota’s B-segment hybrid is represented by the Yaris Hybrid in Europe and the Aqua / Prius hybrid in Japan, USA and the rest of Asia-Ocenia. So the name does suggest this is a design study for the the next generation Yaris or Prius c / Aqua.

This was the previous Prius c concept, first unveiled in the 2011 Detroit Motor Show.

The highlight of the car is in the materials and construction technology adopted and less about the design.

Toyota says the FT-Bh tips the scale at less than 800kg, less than a three-door Aygo hatchback sold in Europe.

At the moment not much is known about the materials used but Toyota says the ultra light weight does not rely on exotic materials or expensive manufacturing techniques, but rather using commonplace, economically viable production methods and technologies, including a down-sized full hybrid powertrain. Currently, Toyota’s smallest hybrid powertrain is a 1.5-litre petrol-electric unit found in the Yaris Hybrid and Prius c (Aqua).
