Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ production startsPOSTED BY admin ON 16 March 2012
It felt like ages since Toyota first unveiled the FT-86 concept car at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
And the saga of Toyota’s affordable sports car is finally becoming a reality as Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the manufacturers of Subaru cars, commences production of the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ at Subaru’s Gunma Main Plant.
The production of the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ is the culmination of four years of joint development between FHI and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).
Subaru’s Gunma Main Plant was formerly used to manufacture Subaru’s small cars, but was upgraded to accommodate the 86 and BRZ’s production line, and soon will be used to produce the next Impreza in 2013.
From what we understand, UMW Toyota would be introducing the 86 coupe in Malaysia soon.
