French footballer Paul Pogba recently took home the ‘Hyundai Young Player’ award after being recognized for his outstanding performance during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

“It’s an honor to be receiving the award. I think of all the years of work, and now, I feel rewarded,” the Juventus player said.

“Playing in this year’s World Cup was already a dream, and this award is another. My next aim is to be the best player of the World Cup.”

The award ceremony took place at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, attended by Pogba as well as Hyundai Motor and FIFA officials.

“Since the 2013 FIFA U-20 Turkey World Cup, Pogba has continued to improve himself and has become one of the most influential senior players for his country,” said FIFA Technical Study Group director Jean-Paul Brigger.

First presented in 2006, the Hyundai Young Player Award is one of FIFA’s official awards that honors outstanding young players born on or after Jan 1 1993 having exceptional skills, a youthful style of play, and is a role model for young footballers.

The past two awards, previously named `Best Young Player Award,’ were presented to Lukas Podolski in 2006 and Thomas Muller in 2010, respectively.

“Discovering the next world rising star is one of the biggest joys of the FIFA World Cup tournament and we are very happy to be part of this exciting award,” said John Kim, president of Hyundai Motor France.

“As the official partner of FIFA World Cup, we will continue our support to find young talents through the ‘Hyundai Young Player’ award.”
