More than 54 percent of car thefts in Malaysia involve a Proton. The Wira constitutes 15 percent of all reported car thefts, making it the most stolen model in the country.
The top three most stolen Proton models are the Wira, Waja and Iswara, in that order.
Perodua is the second most stolen make, constituting 15 percent of all car thefts, followed by Toyota (10 percent).
The Toyota Hilux is the most stolen non-national model, constituting two percent of all reported car thefts.
BMW is the most stolen luxury brand (1 percent), with 113 cases reported, followed by Mercedes-Benz (107 cases).
The statistics, which CBT was able to obtain via an anonymous source, were compiled by the Royal Malaysian Police for the period between January to July 2012.
