The all-new Peugeot 3008 has finally made its way to Malaysia and Motorme.my had to check it out first hand to really understand all the hype surrounding this fine-looking SUV.
Available in two variants – the Active and Allure – this SUV is definitely a keeper as it has impressed many international judges to be crowned European Car of the Year on the eve of the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.
Based on first impressions, yang 3008 certainly boasts stunning good looks but it is the interior that truly captured our imagination.
It’s no secret that Malaysian drivers spend many hours stuck in traffic. Which means, after your house and workplace, your car is a space you are likely to spend most of your day in.
A well designed and appointed interior no longer becomes a luxury for a car, it’s a vital necessity. What you want from your car’s interior is a space that’s easy to use with logical layouts and a design that’s soothing to the eye. An interior, much like the 2017 Peugeot 3008’s New Generation i-Cockpit.
I-Cockpit dalam Peugeot 3008 is many things but boring is not one of them. Being a Peugeot owner myself, I am quite fond of the i-Cockpit design. The first thing that hits you when you open the doors of the 3008 is the angular design theme. The dash itself is split into two levels, above the air-condition vent and below the vent. Above the vent is the 12.3-inch digital meter binnacle display and the 8-inch touch screen. Below that are the toggle switches, transmission and the grip control’s rotary dial. The driver’s section is cordoned off from the passenger by a satin chrome finished ‘C’ shaped divider that gives the driver a sense of being cocooned, just like in a fighter-pilots cockpit.
Now I can go on with superlatives and references from the brochure or media deck. Walau bagaimanapun, what you would want to know is how these features improve your experience in driving the car. jadi, let’s break it down to the 3 striking features of the i-Cockpit.
The first feature is the way you read your dials. The latest Peugeot cars come with hilariously small steering wheels and it’s no different with the 3008. You view the gauges from above the steering wheel, not through it. This allows you to view vital information of the car without having to take your eyes off the road. It’s an odd sensation at first, but soon you will realise that it’s the way forward.
The second part is the digital displays themselves. There are two screens on your dash, the 12.3-inch that is right in front of you and the 8-inch, which is right above the centre air-condition vent. Both displays are almost the same height with each other, which means there’s virtually no stress or confusion in accessing vehicle information. The design and functionality of the display itself is simply sci-fi. Watch this space as we run a separate feature on the displays themselves.
The final feature of the interior is the layout and ambiance. From the Brueno fabric trim to the soft touch of Claudia leather, the sensation one gets when running his fingers across the dashboard is exquisite. Then there’s the satin chrome piece which wraps around the driver, justifying the i-Cockpit term. The cherry on the cake for the interior though is the blue LED mood lighting. The ambiance is straight out of Tron Legacy. Soothing and sophisticated, my only qualm would be that the interior colour is limited to just blue, unlike the Range Rover Evoque. Tetapi sekali lagi, the latter costs almost 3 times more, so this is high praise for the 3008.
It’s this lethal combination of high technology, innovative yet logical instrument layout and beautifully designed controls that make the i-Cockpit a revolution in interior car design. Peugeot 3008 features redefine driving as an experience. Regardless if you’re on the highway, on country roads or stuck in rush hour, it’s a place you really want to be in.
