NST Autoshow takes on an Asean flavourPOSTED BY Dinesh Appavu ON 06 April 2015
The News Straits Times (NST) – Autoshow is set to expand this year as it embraces Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN 2015. Influenced under the Asean theme, the show will host many exhibitors from around Asean as well local distributors and manufacturers.
Entering its sixth year, the NST Autoshow will for the first time be co-organised in partnership with the Malaysia Automotive Institute, being renamed the NST-MAI ASEAN Autoshow in the process and will have a bigger venue at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre, to accommodate the larger amount of exhibitors.
The event was created to help the general public feel involved as part of Malaysia’s motoring process, as well as becoming more aware of motoring issues, love of motoring, and communicating their needs and wants to the automotive makers.
Unlike previous iterations of the NST Autoshow, the Asean Autoshow is set to become the biggest composite automotive show in Malaysia with manufactures and distributors of cars, bikes, trucks as well as aftermarket dealers exhibiting their products under one roof.
The car section will display all newly launched vehicles for 2015 as well as NST’s Car of the Year (COTY) nominees.
The COTY nominees that are split into their respective categories will be displayed for public viewing as part of the People’s Choice Awards that is a subsidiary award. Besides the COTY nominees, manufacturers and distributors will also exhibit all of their other models that are available for test drive and bookings during the show.
The bike section will display the full range of latest bikes from kapcais right up to superbikes and everything in between. As part of the bike show, there will also be a gathering of classic bike fans at the All Bikes Concourse (ABC).
The newest addition to the Autoshow this year is the truck section. It will display the latest commercial vehicles that are available for the business community including light trucks, prime movers, vans, pick-ups, buses and coaches. Transport companies and coach builders are also expected to take part in the truck department.
The ASEAN Autoshow will also have something for the classic car fans at the Classic Car Concourse. Also a first and in conjunction with the Summernats celebration, classic car fans will have the opportunity to view an array of rare and exotic vehicles.
Besides the regular car, bike and truck shows, there will be plenty of special offers from the aftermarket and motoring accessory companies which include tyres, lubricants, rims, GPS and car care products, as well as services from government departments such as PDRM, JPJ, SPAD and Puspakom.
