Seven-seater SUV to be available in two trims.

In a first for UMW Toyota Motor, the all-new Toyota Fortuner was launched simultaneously with its Hilux sibling on Thursday, sporting two new engines as well as an updated interior and sleek exterior.

Pricing for the seven-seater SUV starts at RM186,900 for the 2.4 VRZ turbodiesel while the 2.7 SRZ with its petrol engine will sit above it and cost RM199,900. Both variants will be available with the new five-year, unlimited mileage warranty announced during the launch.

Powering the 2.4 VRZ is a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine good for 150hp and 400Nm of torque while the premium petrol trim features an updated version of the 2.7-litre Dual VVT-I engine from the outgoing Fortuner that now serves up 166hp and 245Nm of torque.

Both variants are available exclusively with six-speed automatics and 4X4 drivetrain.

Suspension-wise, the Fortuner now rides on a more rigid ladder frame with a double wishbone setup up front and a five-link coil spring setup for the rear.

The specification list for the 2.7 SRZ includes LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs and 18-inch wheels while the 2.4 VRZ sits on 17-inch wheels and makes do with halogen headlamps.

Step inside the 2.7 SRZ and you will be greeted by a cabin that has truly been on the receiving end of generous enhancements. Leather covers the steering wheel and gear knob with an Optitron instrument cluster complemented by a 4.2-inch multi information display. Cooling duties are handles by an automatic climate control system with rear vents.

Additional equipment comprise an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment headunit, cooler function for the glove box and a powered seat for the driver with a leather combination upholstery.

On the turbodiesel trim however, you will lose the leather wrap for the steering wheel and gear knob as well as the automatic climate control although the rear vents remain. No touchscreen for the head unit here too, replaced by a CD player system and the upholstery is strictly fabric.

Among the features that are standard include keyless entry, drive modes and security and solar tint.

Safety in the 2.7 SRZ consists of seven airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, stability control, traction control Hill Start Assist and Trailer Sway Control. The 2.4 VRZ gets the short end of the stick with three airbags and ABS.
