New Exciter hits VietnamPOSTED BY Nigel Andretti ON 19 December 2014
THE third generation Yamaha Exciter T150 launched in Vietnam this week is the lightest and quickest of its type yet, the company says.
The new model features the 150cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine used in Yamaha’s ASEAN-region sports models hanging off a newly-designed lightweight underbone frame.. In Malaysia, the engine is used in the nippy FZ150i.
“We want it to be the ‘King of the Streets’ and it was developed with young men in their late teens and early twenties in mind,” the company said in a statement on Friday.
The first generation Exciter was released in 2005 with a 135cc water-cooled engine – the first time in the company’s 4-stroke underbone lineup.
Six years later, the second generation arrived. The 135cc engine was retained but offered detailed refinements.
The T150’s engine was also tweaked with specially tuned intake/exhaust system. Yamaha also decided to add lightweight aluminum wheels. Rear tyre width has been increased to 120mm to cope with the increased power.
