Modenas unveils new Kriss MR2POSTED BY Raja Danielle ON 10 April 2017
Back in 2011, Motosikaldan Enjin Nasional (Modenas) introduced the facelifted Kriss, dubbed the Kriss MR1. With a sub-RM3,000 retail price, it attracted a huge number of buyers, proven by its sales figure of over 150,000 units.
Keen to improve its market share for the 2017 financial year, Modenas recently unveiled the new Kriss MR2. The company believes that the improved Kriss will continue to appeal to customers who aspire an affordable and value-for-money motorcycle.
Powered by a new Euro 3-compliant 110cc four-stroke engine, the Kriss MR2 boasts the perfect balance between power and riding fun. The single-cylinder air-cooled engine produces 6.2kW (8.3hp) at 7,500rpm and a torque figure of 8.2Nm at 5,500rpm. Transmission is a four-speed centrifugal clutch gearbox.
The new Kriss gets a large 4.5 litre fuel tank that is capable of taking you 200km on a single tank. In addition to the larger tank, it has an extra-large luggage compartment of 6.6 litres under the seat that fits a half face helmet and comes complete with a toolkit. Unique 17-inch alloy rims are fitted as standard and a double-piston 220mm disc brake up front for efficient braking.
The bike rides on a suspension setup consisting of a pair of standard telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, adjustable for pre-load.
Design-wise, the Kriss MR2 features a sharper overall appearance. There is an aggressive front body with new designs for both headlight and ECE-compliant tail light.
Speaking at the launch, Amirudin Abd Kadir, chief executive officer of Modenas said, “I am pleased to note that we have successfully increased our manufacturing efficiency and after sales services support, contributing to a substantial reduction of cost, which we are more than happy to transfer to our customers. At Modenas, we do not compromise on quality and are always aware of the needs of the low to middle income group market in introducing new models or variants.”
The new Kriss MR2 comes in three attractive colours, Strike Blue, Canary Yellow and Celebration Red. The bike retails at RM3,890.
