Mercedes-Benz S400L offers pricier alternative to sold out S400L HybridPOSTED BY CBT Team ON 31 July 2014
The locally-assembled Mercedes-Benz S400L Hybrid with its complete duty exemption saw it fly out of the showrooms at just RM583,888 and the complete allocation up to December 2015 are all spoken for. While it is assembled here, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia cannot give you a price for it after that period as there is no news if the duty exemption for CKD hybrids will continue. This is where the non-hybrid, CBU S400L comes in.
If you really must have the new S-Class, the S400L is the only alternative although it will be priced much higher than the hybrid version as it is fully imported and not a hybrid. Nonetheless, the S400L is already available in showrooms, priced at RM865,888, a smidgen cheaper than the RM899,888 for the S400L Hybrid that is inclusive of duties.
Under the S400L’s hood is the same mill found in the E400, a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that is good for 333hp and 480Nm of torque. That makes it a little quicker to the century sprint as well over the S400L Hybrid, 6.1-seconds against the hybrids 6.8-seconds. Spec-wise, everything remains about the same with the exception of a different interior trim used in the non-hybrid S400L.
