While the Malaysian Automotive Institute (MAI) has been re-branded as the Malaysian Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), the focus is still on automotive but with the longer range of electrification and autonomous vehicles.
“The re-branding has been done in order to be more strategic in the automotive industry.’ said Datuk Ts Madani Sahari at MARii’s theatrette in Cyberjaya yesterday.
The re-branding was announced by Datuk Darell Leiking, Minister of International Trade and Industry at his speech at the Malaysia Car of the Year 2018 Awards Gala.
“The re-branding is also to encourage industry players to implement smart technologies into their products, and also to offer a similar scope to other industries.
“The automotive sector is one of, if not the main driver of Robotics and IoT, especially within the manufacturing and services sectors of the future. The sheer scale and competitive environment of the sector spurs the need for new technologies that bring a higher value of cost efficiency, productivity and even eco-sustainability”, Madani said.
“The implementation of robotics and IoT into the automotive industry will introduce more jobs and business opportunities. The adoption of these two technologies are quickly becoming a requirement to achieve Industry 4.0 compliance.”
