Product recalls and safety improvements are integral steps to ensure motor vehicles on the road today are rectified of known product defects.

The recent two fatal crashes concerning a 2003 and 2006 registered Honda concerning ruptured airbag inflators made by Takata Corp is probably a timely reminder to all stakeholders in the Malaysian motor industry to act.

It is long overdue that authorities and national association eg MAI, MAA, SIRIM, Police and/or JPJ coordinate activities in promoting awareness, set reporting standards and publish completion rates of all safety related recalls pertaining to motor vehicles sold in Malaysia.

When you consider that both the Honda City were still plying the roads of our country and the recall was earlier communicated out by Honda Malaysia, responsibility has to lie more in an effective system to avoid similar tragedies from happening again.
