Malaysia Autoshow 2017 – Showcasing energy efficient mobility for all

Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) has taken a step further this year by taking Malaysia’s largest annual autoshow to a whole new level.  Malaysia Autoshow 2017, with the theme Smart, Safe and Sustainable Mobility takes place this weekend (Nov 9 – 12 Nov), from 10am until 9pm every day at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park, Serdang (MAEPS).

The new home of the Malaysia Autoshow 2017 is the show’s largest ever venue that spreads across 368 acres of land. The opening of Malaysia Autoshow 2017 was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Malaysia Autoshow 2017 brings more excitement this year, with a total of 170 exhibitors showcasing a wide range of automotive technology products and services. Car brands of all market segments have shown tremendous support for this year’s edition of the Autoshow.

This is a must-attend event where visitors can test drive different car models from various brands as they search for their ideal car. The test drives take place on a 3km test route that allow visitors to truly experience the models they are testing.

MAI chief executive officer Datuk Madani Sahari said, “Since the NAP 2014 was announced, the automotive industry has seen an unprecedented level of consumer choices in car purchases. The Malaysia Autoshow 2017 is testament to our commitment to showcase mobility solutions that are increasing in fuel efficiency, safety, and security.”

Among the attractions is a taxi ride in higher end car models. Visitors have a golden opportunity to ride in a Bentley Bentayga or Ford Mustang GT 5.0 around the event location for only RM30.

Visitors can also catch a Toyota 4×4 taxi ride, an activity specially designed for adventurers seeking an extreme off-road experience. There will be merchandise and souvenirs by the Land Rover Owners Club of Malaysia on Friday and Saturday as well as night barbeques and a screening of adventure expeditions by Malaysian off-roaders.

For those who love motorsports, Karting Slalom is one of the many outdoor activities on Nov 11 and 12. The event will run from 9am to 6pm, with a fee of between RM10 and RM30, depending on age group. This activity is available for children aged eight and above.

Visitors interested in automotive technology can gain insight into Honda SENSING for a better understanding of this advanced automotive safety technology at Honda Malaysia’s interactive booth.

Those who wish to know more about the Malaysian insurance, Takaful industry as well as the updates on phased liberalisation of motor and fire tariffs should visit the autoshow as well.

For this reason, Car Care Week will continue to feature at this year’s Malaysia Autoshow. All visitors will be given an opportunity to enjoy a 39-point car inspection for free during the event.

Running concurrently with the Autoshow is Kuala Lumpur International Automotive Symposium 2017 (KLIAS)in Hall D2 from 9:30am to 5pm.

KLIAS 2017 is an annual meeting of global automotive professionals and players in Malaysia. This event also serves as a platform for market experts from Malaysia and abroad to gather and share the latest trends, technologies, advancements and policies in the automotive industry.

Employment opportunities are an important feature of KLIAS 2017. The KLIAS Career Fair takes place on Nov 11 and 12 from 10am to 6pm every day. An estimated 3,000 vacancies are available for those interested to join the automotive industry.

A culmination of music and mobility in one place

MAI and RSVP Media Sdn Bhd is presenting a one-of-a-kind combo, integrating the Malaysia Autoshow 2017 with SoundValley Festival.

The music festival will take place on Nov 11 and 12 from 2pm until 11.30pm and will be a new experience for visitors, where motor enthusiasts and music fans come together to share their interests.

Malaysia Car of the Year 2017 demonstrates a stronger move towards electrification

The Malaysia Car of the Year 2017 (COTY 2017) was held on Nov 6 in Perdana Hall, MITI. This is the first COTY that has dedicated categories for hybrid vehicles, a reflection of the growing demand from Malaysian car buyers and the commitment from the automotive industry to bring in more energy efficient mobility options for consumers.

Various car brands including BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, Perodua, Porsche, Proton, Subaru and Toyota took home awards under different categories. The biggest winners of the night were Honda and Mercedes-Benz who took home five awards each.

Over 300 models sold in Malaysia were evaluated and categorised into 27 categories, including the new categories for battery/electric hybrid vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Malaysia is the only country in Southeast Asia that offers a number of hybrid models in line with the Government’s direction to become the energy efficient vehicles (EEV) hub in the region.

This year, the Honda Jazz Hybrid was crowned the Overall Car of the Year, while Datuk Dr Zahari Husin, managing director of Perodua Sales Sdn. Bhd, was named Automotive Man of the Year 2017.

All winning models will be displayed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2017. Visitors will not only be able to view these models but are welcome to test drive the available models.
