Lotus lobs top off Exige for new Roadster model

POSTED BY admin ON 07 March 2012

For years the Exige has been the fixed roof hardcore spin-off from the road-oriented Elise roadster, so it comes as a big surprise when Lotus unveiled the Exige S Roadster at the Geneva Motor Show.

From the outside it looks like a big Elise, and bears little resemblance to the tiny feather weight track-borne Exige.

Peer into the engine bay and there is a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 instead of a supercharged 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine that powers the normal Exige.

That would be enough to give the Exige S Roadster, with a targeted weight of 1,100kg, a 0-100km/h time of 4 seconds, and a 0-160km/h time of 8.5 seconds.

Customers can specify the Exige S Roadster with either a six-speed manual or Lotus’ automated manual IPS transmission, a Race Pack package for a more aggressive suspension setup with launch control, and even plush leather appointments.
