Launch: Volkswagen Vento – three guises, priced from RM79,888POSTED BY Amirul Hazmi ON 19 May 2016
VOLKSWAGEN Malaysia has unveiled the new Volkswagen Vento, the sedan that does not compromise.
The Vento incarnates German engineering and world class standard – and is made for drivers who value performance without sacrificing practicality and safety.
According to Volkswagen Group Malaysia managing direcor Armin Keller, the Vento is a sedan that has it all – performance, safety, design and innovation.
“The Vento plays a vital role in our strategy to making our cars more accessible and affordable to Malaysians. And with the introduction of the multiline, we believe that there is a Vento to suit everybody’s needs.”
The Vento will replace the current outgoing Polo sedan while the Polo name will remain for the hatchback form.
“The Vento name has already been used for a long time in countries like Russia and India. The weather conditions in those countries could be tough but the Vento remains reliable and well-accepted by the consumers there. We are hoping to replicate the same results in Malaysia, with the Vento here made by Malaysians, for Malaysians, and with German engineering,” said Armin.
The Trendline and Comfortline come with a 1.6-litre engine with an output of 103.5hp and 153Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic function and retains a fuel consumption of 6.5 litres per 100km.
While the Trendline is the entry-level Vento which gives consumers a continental car at a great price, the Comfortline on the other hand is more of a well-compromised variant for consumers who are looking for balance between technology, safety and value.
However, the powerplant’s torque is rated at a whopping 175Nm, making it the sedan with the highest torque in its class.
It translates to excellent driveability and effortless acceleration, and the power is transferred to the wheels via the seven-speed DSG transmission.
The new Vento comes with a redesigned front grille, with chrome and “character lines” that give the car a tough, solid stance.
The smoked headlamps and tail lamps are also new, with manual height adjustable headlamps to ensure optimal visibility in any situation.
Specifically to the Highline variant is the 16-inch Syenit alloy wheels, while the other two variants feature 15-inch wheels.
The Vento also equipped with a cooled glove box, ‘Cable’ fabric seat upholstery and a large multi-function display screen.
Other than the 5-star Asean NCAP rating for the Highline, all three variants come with safety features like the anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), four airbags, intelligent crash response system (ICRS), anti-pinch power windows and Isofix anchorage point for child seats.
On the DSG gearbox issue, Armin said: “We admit that there are some issues in the past regarding the DSG dual-clutch transmission, but as for the new Vento, we have revised the transmission by giving it some new components to ensure that the gearbox could perform the way it is suppose to,” he said.
The new Vento is priced at RM79,888 for the 1.6 Trendline, RM86,888 for the 1.6 Comfortline and RM93,888 for the 1.2 Highline. Early buyers are entitled to a RM2,000 rebate.
The Vento also comes with a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage and five-year mobility guarantee. Bookings and test drives arrangements can be made at all authorised Volkswagen dealerships nationwide.
