LAUNCH: Peugeot 508: from RM175,000 OTRPOSTED BY Mick Chan ON 28 May 2015
If you’ve been waiting for a new alternative to the mainstream choices in the executive sedan segment, here’s one to whet your appetite for variety: the Peugeot 508.
Introduced today by Nasim Sdn Bhd, importer and distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia, two powertrain options are available across three variants – the 163hp/240Nm 1.6-litre twin-scroll high pressure turbo powers the 1.6 THP sedan and the 1.6THP SW (station wagon), while the range-topping 508 GT is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel which produces 205hp and 450Nm of torque.
Both powertrain options are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission which features a sport mode and Tiptronic manual override that can also be controlled via paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Both engines are rated as compliant to Euro 5 emissions standards; the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol has a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.1L/100km, while the 2.2-litre turbodiesel powertrain model is rated at 5.7L/100km combined.
For the 508 1.6 THP variant, front suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts, while the 508 GT uses a double wishbone setup in front. Both 1.6 THP and GT variants use multi-link rear suspension.
The sedan variants boasts a luggage capacity of 545 litres with the rear seats in place and 1,244 litres with them folded down, while the station wagon can swallow 660 litres in its luggage compartment with the rear seats in place, and 1,365 litres with the seats folded down.
New for the 508 is the full-LED light setup: there not a single conventional light bulb in the new Peugeot executive sedan.
Meanwhile, the Peugeot 508’s suite of active safety features include traction control, stability control, emergency braking assistance, EBD and ABS, and passive safety consists of six airbags (front, front-side and curtain for each side), pretensioning and force-limiting seatbelts in front, and force-limiting seatbelts for the side-rear occupants.
Two Isofix child seat mounts also feature in the rear-side seats.
At the launch of the updated Peugeot 508, Nasim chief operating officer Datuk Samson Anand George said that the company aims to sell 80-90 units of the just-launched D-segment model per month.
Estimated on-the-road prices for the Peugeot 508 are RM175,000 for the 1.6 THP, RM185,000 for the 508 1.6 THP SW, and RM205,000 for the 508 GT.
The Peugeot 508 is available in five colours: Pearl White (THP, SW and GT variants), Bourrasque Blue (THP), Pine Brown (THP/SW), Artense Grey (THP/SW), and Haria Grey (THP/GT).
