Introducing the new Kia RioPOSTED BY Yamin Vong ON 22 July 2017
The new Kia Rio launched on Thursday, July 20, is the same car that won the iF Design Award for Outstanding Product Design on March 10 in Munich.
Sometimes, a car looks much better in real life than in photos and this most definitely describes the new Kia Rio.
It’s one of the better-looking cars launched this year and to be more specific, it’s got the attractive continental looks that places the Kia Rio between Japanese cars and cars made in Europe.
The interior design is also European influenced – the dashboard has the sexy curves similar to upmarket German sports cars. Check it out yourself.
“Though the third-generation Kia Rio was popular among Malaysians for its design, good build quality and interior features, the all-new fourth-generation Kia Rio takes it a notch higher with improved spaciousness on top of its good looks,” said Datuk Samson Anand George, chief executive officer of Naza Automotive Group.
“The all-new Kia Rio offers customers a balanced product that combines everyday practicality with grand design and efficiency,” he said at the launch in Kuala Lumpur.
The all-new Kia Rio has keyless entry, push start ignition, automatic headlights, static bending lights and LED daytime running lights.
There is also a five-inch LCD touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity to allow the use of mobile apps that are on a smartphone.
The all-new Kia Rio has a 1.4 litre multi-point injection twin-cam engine with variable valve timing that generates 100PS (about 98hp) and 133Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The transmission is a four-speed hydraulic automatic.
The all-new Kia Rio includes six air-bags, ISOFIX baby seat mounts, speed sensing automatic door lock and impact sensing automatic door unlock. Active safety features include anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) and hill start assist.
The all-new Kia Rio is the fifth model to be launched by franchise holder Naza Kia this year. Earlier this year, it launched the Grand Carnival, Sportage, Sorento and Optima.
While Naza-Kia’s best-selling models are currently the Sorento and Cerato, the new Rio could come in a strong third.
The all-new Kia Rio is priced at RM79,888 (on-the-road, without insurance).
