Honda Accord 2.4 VTi-L - inovasi PraktikalPOSTED BY Yamin Vong ON 15 jun 2017
Telah Honda berjaya mencipta kereta paling laris lebih baik?
Motorme.my recently took a drive in the new Honda Accord that was launched late last year and to check out Honda Motor Corporation’s answer to that question.
The executive sedan is in its ninth generation and we tested the top-of-the-line 2.4 VTi-L model that already had 13,000 km on the clock and added on another 440 km over three days.
It’s easy to fit into the driver’s seat and it could be something to do with Honda’s measurement of the dimension of humans or Asian drivers. Why do I say this? There is one premium German car I tried that took me a lot of adjusting before getting it right.
The Honda Accord’s driver’s seat has eight adjustment controls and the steering wheel can be adjusted in four directions. I fitted in quickly but perhaps it will help if you are 5’5” like me.
I had to remind myself to watch my foot. Within the first 50 km of my test drive, I knew that this executive sedan had a sporty nature and that the 175ps (172hp pada 6,200rpm) power would encourage spirited driving.
The Accord has electric power steering (EPA) which works in tandem with the Vehicle Stability Assist (ALL) to compensate for oversteer and understeer. I experienced it on the fast sweeping corner exiting the Federal Highway to Subang Airport, as I felt the steering’s compensation mechanism and understood what the “Motion Adaptive” power steering was all about.
It’s Honda’s way of varying the level of assistance from the electric power steering, depending on the angle of the steering wheel, speed and turning direction of the car. The Motion Adaptive electric power steering works in tandem with the Vehicle Stability Control.
Motion Adaptive EPS and how it works
Part of the VSA system, Motion Adaptive EPS is a stability system which automatically reinforces steering feedback, aimed at prompting the driver to steer in the correct direction in situations where the car is threatened with instability.
Typical situations of when the system kicks in are when low grip or slippery conditions cause the car to understeer or oversteer while entering a corner or during sharp braking where the car’s performance is affected by a road surface with different friction coefficients – for example, where it is dry on one side of the road and slippery on the other or when there is danger of the car becoming unsettled as a result of over-braking at the wheels.
The VSA sensors identify the instability and, via the EPS, a steering impulse in the required direction is initiated
The input from the EPS is barely noticeable; control of the steering wheel remains with the driver at all times.
Walau bagaimanapun, this supporting steering torque is enough to prompt the driver to act intuitively and choose the optimum steering movement such as steering into the skid in the incident of oversteer or prompting greater steering movement into the turn when understeering.
This steering support combined with the driver’s reaction is enough to regain stability or shorten braking distances, allowing better control of the car.
New safety feature:
There is a rearview camera for the left side of the car that is activated when you signal left.
I felt the wide-angle camera view superior to the wingmirror as there is no blind spot and it made the mirror become redundant for me. Yet somehow, I felt a bit guilty. Was dependence on the new and superior rear view technology making me negligent? Did it impact road safety? Probably not, because looking at the rear view on the large central monitor was less distracting than focusing on a small mirror situated further away.
