VETERAN Zach Yong took the humid and dusty condition of the 2nd Whiskey Radio Station (WRS) 4×4 Rally track in his stride and raced unchallenged to the title on April 12.

Well there were some attempts mounted throughout the five special stages over two days but the Kota Belud pair Zach, popularly known as Fa Ku, and co-driver Elkana H. Yapin were never really bothered.

Aided and abetted by Elkana’s navigational skills, Zach, a former Borneo Safari Challenge champion, put to good use his experience to race to the title.

Driving a Diahatsu with a 3.2-litre Nissan QD engine under the hood, Zach started well to take the lead from the start and conquered the five well-designed special stages (3 SS on day one), clocking a total of 19:43.08s.

The win was worth RM3,000 and a basketful of prizes.

Kota Kinabalu teams finished second and third, Yap Swee Siong and Oliver Sungat in the Nissan Navara and Rodia B. Dusu and Steven Chin in their Rally Mitsubishi Evo.

Yap @ Singa Lau and Oliver drove home with RM2,000 while Rodia and Chin won RM1,000. Bothe teams were also presented with Petron motor oils.
