Pertama slalom pernah karting di MalaysiaPOSTED BY Nigel Andretti ON 13 September 2017
Young motorsports enthusiasts and parents with children who have an aptitude for motorsports will have the opportunity to put their or their children’s talents to the test, in a safe manner and controlled environment during the Malaysia Autoshow 2017 this November.
For the first time in Malaysia, a new form of motorsports – Karting Slalom – aims at providing a low-cost platform to unearth new and young racing talents.
Speaking at the media introduction and test drive of the Karting Slalom event, the chief executive officer of the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MORE) Datuk Madani Sahari said, “Karting Slalom is a new category designed by the Commission Internationale de Karting Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA) and is targeted at young people who have never competed in motorsports before.
“We are very excited to note that we will be the first to host a Karting Slalom event in Malaysia. I believe this event will provide good exposure for young motorsports enthusiasts and more importantly, to also discover hidden talents for early nurturing.
“Karting Slalom is definitely an excellent sporting activity for parents and children to enjoy at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2017,” Datuk Madani continued.
Also present at the event was Paul David, the vice-president and one of the founders of Kelab Kart Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan (KKS). KKS is an affiliate of AAM, which is the sole National Sporting Authority for 4-wheel and 2-wheel motorsports in Malaysia, and is recognised by the FIA, Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and CIK.
David, who is one of the pioneers of karting in Malaysia said, “We are very happy to be working with the MAI and to be the first to bring Karting Slalom to Malaysia. This is a first step towards having a Malaysian karting slalom championship next year.”
The Karting Slalom formula was introduced as a way to get more young people into motorsports and to educate them on the basics of driving and safe driving that can be transferred directly from racing to driving on public roads.
Karting Slalom is suitable for all, including children as young as eight years old. Being dubbed a new form of motorsports, Karting Slalom made its first appearance in Germany a few years ago and is rapidly gaining popularity.
Karting Slalom is an exciting sporting activity in which the driver will handle the kart through an obstacle course at a controlled speed. The karts will be limited to close to walking pace and any deviation from the course will incur penalties. The activity requires only a small area of tarmac or space and basically requires two karts, safety gear, cones and timing equipment.
Participants of the Karting Slalom at Malaysia Autoshow 2017 will drive the kart around a slalom course one at a time and they will be electronically timed by the officials from Kelab Kart Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan.
Helmets will be provided for participants but aspiring competitors are advised to wear at least heavy full-length trousers with proper shoes and socks as well as a long sleeved jacket and full gloves.
Participants will be grouped by age and the participation fees are as follows:
