WITH less than three weeks to go, final preparations for the NST-MAI Asean Autoshow, Malaysia’s largest motor show, are in full swing.
Occupancy of the 25,000-sq-metre exhibition halls is almost 90 per cent taken up, with a string of activities lined up both indoor and outdoor during the four-day Autoshow to be held from Nov 12 to 15 at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre in Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
Over 150 exhibitors from top motoring brands and aftermarket and accessory products will showcase their latest models and ware at the autoshow.
“As this year’s venue is bigger, we are arranging for six outdoor activities ranging from BHP Euro 5 diesel car test drives, Subaru All-Wheel Challenge, E-Bus launch and ride, Car Clinic by Puspakom, Ford Ranger Experience by Sime Darby Auto Connexion and a Tyre Clinic by Lim Tayar,” said Yamin Vong, organising chairman and editor of Cars, Bikes & Trucks.
At the Subaru All-Wheel Challenge, participants will tackle four obstacles mimicking slippery offroad, muddy and hilly terrains to explore their vehicles’ all-wheel drive capabilities. The obstacles are Roller Conveyor, Side Ramp, Slip Rollers and Cross Rollers.
“Taking centrestage in the indoor area will be 62 newly-launched cars this year displayed in 17 categories, all under one roof, for show patrons not only to view but also provide them with an opportunity to choose a car in the price range and bodystyle of their choice.”
Selected cars models will also be available for test drives.
“As one of the objectives of the autoshow is to help exhibitors with car sales, we are working with car companies to give good value and exclusive offers at the Autoshow,” said Vong.
Visitors can expect at least 20 per cent discounts on pre-owned cars – from Land Rover, Jaguar, Hyundai, Ford and BMW brands – at the Sime Darby Premium Auto booth.
“All show patrons also stand to win over RM200,000 worth of prizes. The top prizes include a Peugeot 208 worth RM85,000, a Ninebot Personal Transportation robot worth RM14,000 and a Modenas bike worth RM5,000,” said Vong.
“Visitors are also eligible to participate in the NST-Maybank People’s Choice contest by voting for their favourite car of the year from the line-up of 62 nominated cars for 2015 and win attractive prizes.”
Bike fans looking for a ride of their choice can take their pick at the Pre-Owned Bike section, a first time offering at the Autoshow.
“As road safety awareness is a priority to us, together with our Autoshow partner, the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), we have arranged with Asean NCAP and the Road Safety department to showcase their programmes on safety standards concerning crashworthiness, road safety and occupant protection.
“We are also happy to note that Allianz Malaysia Berhad will further enhance road safety awareness at their booth through their Allianz Auto Assist app and safety quizzes with child safety booster seats, safety helmets and car shoulder pads as giveaway items.”
Car launches of the Kia Rio, Haval H2/5 and CAM Caravan as well as mobile office by the Sendok Group will be held on Nov 12, the launch date of the Autoshow by Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry.
A display of iconic classic cars from 1955 to 1985 in conjunction with the Malaysia Singapore Vintage Car Register’s 60th anniversary will take place at the mezzanine floor of the exhibition hall.
Other anniversary marques on display will include Jaguar (80 years) and Citroen DS (50 years).
An Education Day to draw in college and university students from mainly the Klang Valley will coincide with the launch of the Autoshow on Nov 12. Several hundred college and university students will be invited for career talks and explore job opportunities available for them in the auto industry.
The organisers are also looking at food caterers with a variety of Asean flavour menu offerings at the Autoshow.
