Coming soon: Isuzu MU-X seven-seater SUVPOSTED BY Mick Chan ON 22 April 2015
It’s finally coming: Isuzu’s MU-X, a seven-seater SUV based on the D-Max pick-up truck, is set for official arrival next month.
As the MU-X sits above the D-Max in Isuzu’s pecking order, it will almost certainly feature the 2.5-litre turbodiesel, possibly the 3.0-litre variant later on, and as with the D-Max, the MU-X can also be expected to adopt a similar Terrain Command system for high- and low-range 4WD selection.
Key distinctions over the D-Max for added on-road emphasis include the multi-link independent rear suspension, featuring coil springs and gas-charged dampers, while decelerating duties are handled by ventilated disc brakes in front and solid disc brakes at the rear.
Australian market MU-X variants include the choice of manual and automatic transmissions, both with five speeds, while all variants for that country are kitted with a leather interior. All Australian variants feature the full suite of active safety equipment, including electronic stability control and traction control.
When it comes to market in Malaysia, the MU-X will be pitched against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, and – upon its arrival later – the new Ford Everest; all are ladder-frame chassis SUVs sharing a common platform with their pick-up truck siblings.
