WHEN the warranty on a new car expires the question that haunts motorists is where to send their cars for regular maintenance and repair.
They can continue to send their cars back to their respective distributors or their authorised service centres whose work practices are guided by rules imposed by the distributor.
Some owners prefer sending their cars to independent workshops for regular maintenance or repairs but since they don’t have to work within set rules, the quality of their services vary greatly.
For old cars, mechanics may competently carry out repairs by the roadside but many later models, whose engines and electronics are managed by computers, dedicated equipment, tools and special training is required.
My daughter bought a Peugeot 308 turbo in early 2011 and the car was initially sent to various service centres operated by the distributor.
As in many large workshops, everything had to be carried out systematically but took a long time to complete.
kemudian, the car was sent regularly to Geotauto, an authorised service centre in Petaling Jaya, off Jalan 227.
Service here was efficient and a service advisor, Yau Jun Xian, was particularly courteous and helpful.
Recently, the Peugeot’s high pressure fuel pump failed and had to be replaced. But even after discount, it was still too much money to spend on a car that is up for sale.
I decided to look for an independent workshop competent in Peugeot repairs and was recommended to Peug Auto in Taman Perindustrian Batu Tiga.
One of the partners there, Puru, was friendly and accommodating. I requested him to source for a used high pressure fuel pump.
He called the next day to say he has found two units.
The following day, I called AXA Affin’s hotline and they provided free service for a car carrier to transport the Peugeot to the Batu Tiga workshop.
Upon arrival, Puru immediately diagnosed the fault with his computerised equipment and concurred that the fuel pump was indeed faulty and had to be replaced.
The car is now back on the road with a used fuel pump costing very much less than a new unit.
kebetulan, both Peug Auto and Geotauto are using half of the name Peugeot for their workshops, with the former using the first four letters and the latter the last four.
They are well worth a visit for Peugeot owners looking for alternatives to service or repair their cars.
