208 GTi revealed in concept form for GenevaPOSTED BY admin ON 17 February 2012
The era when Peugeot’s 205 GTi was a hatchback legend is fast fading from memory.
Successive small GTi Peugeots since became less exciting and fatter, but hope is around the corner with Peugeot releasing details of the 208 GTi, in concept form at least.
Set for a debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, the 208 GTi Concept comes dressed with a bodykit, powered by powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine from the RCZ THP200, and a healthy serving of GTi badging all around.
To keep it glued on track the GTi Concept sports 36mm wider front and rear track, a rear spoiler which provides real downforce, and excessively sized 302mm big disc brakes up front and 249mm items round the back.
While Peugeot says that this 208 GTi is only a concept car there are subtle hints that the production version is not too far away.
The biggest clue to that is the Concept’s lower bar which carries the French Tricolour flag or, as Peugeot themselves points out in their own words, “the Union Jack when it comes to Britain”.
