Yamaha adding sports car to its “orchestra”?POSTED BY Nigel Andretti ON 20 October 2015
YAMAHA is apparently be bringing a concept car to the Tokyo Motor Show, having this week posted a teaser shot of the vehicle (main pic).
The Japanese company says its theme for this year’s show will be the “Yamaha Product Orchestra,” and although they make ATVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, side-by-sides, scooters and other engines, there has never been a car in Yamaha’s product portfolio.
There is no word on whether or not the concept could become a production car. Information about the concept is thin, with Yamaha only saying that the “design concept is inspired by motorcycles and expresses the Unique Style of Yamaha”.
Could it be that, in the vein of Honda’s concept roadster, Yamaha will stick a MotoGP engine in the concept?
The company didn’t give any details at all about the car concept — not even a name. The press release added: “This car design concept is inspired by motorcycles and expresses the Unique Style of Yamaha?.”
The sketch is of a small, two-seat sports concept. With Toyota promising a tiny, affordable sports car in the S-FR concept set to debut at next week’s show, Tokyo is shaping up to be boom-town for enthusiast cars.
Yamaha will also display “an autonomous motorcycle-riding humanoid robot that combines motorcycle and robotics technologies”.
