Retro Havoc 2017 to Set a New RecordPOSTED BY Jason Tan ON 30 March 2017
Retro Havoc 2017 aims to gather more than 850 cars and make it into the Malaysia Book of Records. An automotive-sport event that gathers all kinds of retro cars and motorcycles from around Malaysia as well as neighbouring countries, Retro Havoc is now in its 4th year since it was first held in 2014.
This time around, Retro Havoc 2017 will be held down south at Stadium Sultan Ibrahim, Muar, Johor and will be attended by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Johor. The event which is scheduled from March 31 to April 1 is also held in conjunction with HRH’s birthday.
Among the attractions lined up for this year’s edition is the appearance of well-known international automotive experts as the event judges – Daijiro Inada (founder of Option Japan and Tokyo Auto Salon), Shoji Inoue (founder of Star Road Japan), Yuji Miyazaki (president of Geibunsha Publishing), LulutWahyudi (owner of Kustomfest Indonesia) and Jei (Sushi Factory Philippines).
Official international and local media from seven countries are also set to cover the event. Companies such as Speedhunters, 9tro, Hypertune, Cars Bikes, Trucks and Astro Awani are among those listed.
Other attractions at the event include food trucks, with spaces specially-allocated to operators from Muar to showcase Muar delicacies, as well as drift shows and education booths for local vocational institutions who will showcase their talent in the automotive industry. The event organiser is working with Johor Tourism to promote the event as a special event for Muar and for the city to be one of the must-visit cities in Malaysia.
As a platform to showcase unique and out-of-this-world custom work in Malaysia, Retro Havoc judges will carefully pick five different machines to claim the top five titles; Atara Racing’s Choice, Best Restored, Best JDM, Best Euro and the overall winner – King of Retro Havoc 2017. Other titles include Best Ratz Style, Best Future Retro, Best Slammed, Best Engine Bay as well as the judges’ individual choices.
We also learned that six limited edition rally-prepped Subaru WRXs will be driven all the way from Hong Kong to Muar for this event, led by Archie Yiu of Classic Car Racers. Visitors who wish to get a closer look at HRH’s car collection can also do so as he will exhibit some of his cars at this special event.
The first day on March 31 is reserved for the organisers and participants to set up the booths and participating cars. The event is open to the public on Saturday, April 1. The event will start at 9.00am and end at 6.00pm. Tickets are at RM5 per entry and can be purchased through the ticketing hotline at 012-7789133.
