Ferrari 812 Superfast launched in Malaysia.POSTED BY Ian Jerome Leong ON 29 August 2017
At a time when car companies are unveiling smaller capacity engines to reduce production costs and maximising output levels via superchargers and turbos, it is refreshing to see a manufacturer that holds firmly to its roots and breaks away from the norms to produce a car that utilises a large capacity naturally aspirated engine.
Boasting a 6.5-litre V12 engine that produces 588kW (800cv) at 8,500rpm and 718Nm of torque at 7,000rpm, the Ferrari 812 Superfast is the most powerful and fastest road-going Ferrari ever produced with a zero to 100kph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 340km/h.
This amazing supercar was unveiled to the Malaysian media last week at Zebra Square in Kuala Lumpur, in front of VIPs that included Naza World Group of Companies’ executive chairman Datuk Wira Hj. S.M. Faisal S.M. Nasimuddin, chief executive officer of Ferrari Far and Middle East Hub Dieter Knechtel and chief operating officer of Naza Italia Farid Sulaiman.
Seventy years after producing the very first Ferrari, the Italian manufacturer has once again pushed the boundaries of its own achievements by producing a front-engined supercar that is not only aesthetically pleasing but one with innovative technology and unparalleled handling.
It sets the benchmark for the front mid-engine sports car segment, promising thrilling top-end performance that is sure to entertain Ferrari fans the world over.
Complemented with a rich exhaust note, the 812 Superfast has 80% of its maximum torque output already available at 3,500rpm, improving all-round drivability and pick-up even at low revs.
The powerplant, however, is not the only strong point of this beautiful machine as there is a bunch of advanced systems incorporated to improve handling.
The 812 Superfast is the first Ferrari to adopt Electric Power Steering to fully exploit the potential of the car’s outstanding performance and has a Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 system that combines electric front-wheel steering assistance with the mechanical concept built around tyre dimensions and rear-wheel steering.
These systems are integrated with the vehicle dynamics control system based on the latest 5.0 version of Side Slip Control (SSC) intended to improve agility, nimbleness and vehicle response time.
Aimed at improving overall performance and driving pleasure, the car is a product of immense innovative technology that includes a cluster of aerodynamic solutions such as active flaps at the front of the underbody and rear flank to increase downforce.
The 812 produces 10% higher downforce than the F12 it replaces.
Ferrari’s latest supercar is being introduced at a base price of RM1,578,800 (excluding duty and customisation options).
Potential buyers will be glad to note that a new colour has been developed for this model to commemorate the company’s 70th anniversary – Rosso Settantanni – making the car all the more desirable.
