Experiencing the new Petron Turbo Diesel Euro 5POSTED BY Amirul Hazmi ON 18 May 2017
After the successful introduction of the Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4M petrol last year and being the only brand to offer such high-octane fuel in Malaysia, Petron has added a Euro 5-compliant diesel formula to its fuel line up.
Petron’s Turbo Diesel Euro 5 is a technologically-advanced fuel that is specially formulated to provide improved engine performance, including better outright acceleration, better fuel economy and reduced harmful exhaust emissions.
Other benefits include a more complete combustion for maximum power, cleaner fuel injection, reduced ignition delay, enhanced cold start performance and better protection against engine corrosion. These characteristics make the Turbo Diesel Euro 5 an ideal fuel to feed the latest and most modern turbo diesel engines.
Petron recently invited its loyal customers as well as members of the media to experience the benefits of the new diesel fuel with an intoxicating road trip from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Terengganu.
With a range of diesel-powered trucks ranging from Mitsubishi Tritons, Chevrolet Colorados and Isuzu D-Maxes, the convoy took on a 500km route comprising hilly terrains, rough roads and highway stretches. This included a pit stop at Pahang’s famous Jerangkang waterfall in Maran.
Petron’s Head of Retail Business Faridah Ali said, “We are proud of the results of the Petron Fuel Happy Trip, which put our cutting-edge Turbo Diesel Euro 5 to the test. The road trip affirmed the fuel’s premium TriAction Advantage additives formula as the fuel successfully boosted the performance of participating vehicles, giving the drivers and their passengers a satisfying road trip experience.”
“Since its rollout in September 2016, we have received excellent feedback from customers who regularly use Turbo Diesel Euro 5. This product signifies our passion in delivering innovative products to our valued customers and it is now available at 70 stations to meet the growing demand. More importantly, it meets the ultra-low sulphur requirements of Euro 5 standards,” Faridah continued.
Behind The Wheel
From the flag-off venue at Petron Selayang MRR2 station, the convoy of around 20 vehicles departed to the first destination, the Jerangkang waterfall. I was assigned to a Mitsubishi Triton VGT that has a 2.5-litre variable geometry turbo diesel engine.
The Triton climbed and carved through the hilly Karak highway smoothly and I barely needed to apply full throttle along the way. The Turbo Diesel Euro 5 helped the engine deliver the power and torque needed to overcome the rather high elevation changes of the highway.
After we regrouped at Sri Jaya toll plaza, the convoy took some mild off-road trails to reach the waterfall area. The Triton engine revved smoothly at the lower end and maintained its momentum as we drove through mud and puddles. All the trucks, including a few two-wheel-drive Triton Quests, managed to reach the waterfall camping area without any issue.
Later that day, our convoy got onto the highway at Gambang to head to Terengganu via the East Coast Expressway (LPT) and East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2). The Triton was able to cruise at the national speed limit and occasionally at higher speed with decent manner. There was minimal engine noise heard in the cabin and the engine ran effortlessly at those speeds.
Compared to the Euro 2M diesel with 550ppm sulphur, the Turbo Diesel Euro 5 features less than 50 times the sulphur produced at 10ppm, thus having cleaner combustion characteristics. Apart from a cleaner combustion, the diesel helped the Triton obtain a pretty respectable fuel economy, measuring at 15.2km per litre based on the onboard computer.
Petron Turbo Diesel Euro 5 is now available at selected Petron stations in the Klang Valley, Southern region as well as Northern region. The company will expand the availability of the Euro 5 diesel towards the East Coast as well as Sabah and Sarawak in phases.
