POSTED BY Yamin Vong ON 19 January 2018

The new Volvo XC60 launched in Malaysia on Jan 18 is arguably considered one of the safest cars in the world.

It bagged the Euro NCAP’s Best Overall Performance award for 2017, scoring a near perfect 98% in the Adult Occupant category and 95% in the Large Off-Road Vehicle Class.

Safety does not mean boring. The XC60 Twin Engine churns out 407hp and 640Nm of torque – meaning it packs a lot of muscle.

The Volvo XC60 uses Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) which means it shares many underpinnings with the XC90 and the S90.

It has been nine years since the first Volvo XC60 was launched, during which it was the best-selling mid-size SUV in Europe, said Volvo Car Malaysia managing director Lennart Stegland.

“Almost one million Volvo XC60’s were sold in the EU,” he said at the launch at PJ Sheraton.

The new Volvo XC60 is a seven seater and has many autonomous driving features.

The new Volvo XC60 was also awarded Car of the Year in the US last year in the utility class.

Volvo sold a record 570,000 cars worldwide last year.

Prices for the new Volvo XC60 start from RM298,888 and the range-topping Volvo XC60 T8 Plug-in Hybrid is priced at RM343,888.

The first batch of Volvo XC60s will be CBU (complete built-up) units until local production is ramped up to supply the domestic and regional markets.
